In 1900 the Buffalo chapter of the Young Men?s Christian Association, established nearly 50 years earlier, was in need of a new home. Green and Wicks, famous Buffalo architects who were also busy preparing for the Pan-American Exposition, designed the new building. Its four wings were thought to represent four categories of the YMCA?s mission: religious pursuits, social responsibility, scholastic achievement, and sportsmanship.
